Claude Desktop Integration

Step-by-step guide to using PingRep tools inside Claude Desktop.

Claude Desktop Integration

This guide walks you through setting up and using PingRep tools inside Claude Desktop. By the end, you will be able to search for professionals, talk to their AI Representatives, and save contacts without leaving your conversation.

Step 1: Get Your API Key

  1. Log in to your PingRep dashboard at app.pingrep.com
  2. Navigate to Settings then API Keys
  3. Click Create API Key and copy the generated key

Store Your Key Safely

The API key is shown only once. Save it somewhere secure before closing the dialog.

Step 2: Configure Claude Desktop

Open your Claude Desktop configuration file in a text editor.

Add the PingRep MCP server to the mcpServers object:

Existing Configuration

If you already have other MCP servers configured, add the keynodecard entry alongside them inside the existing mcpServers object. Do not replace the entire file.

Step 3: Restart Claude Desktop

Close Claude Desktop completely and reopen it. The PingRep tools will appear in the tools menu (hammer icon in the input area).

Step 4: Verify It Works

Start a new conversation and try one of these prompts:

If you see results, the integration is working.

Example Conversations

Here are practical examples of how to use PingRep tools in your daily workflow.

Research before a meeting:

Network at scale:

Discoverability Settings

Only profiles with both is_public and mcp_discoverable enabled will appear in MCP tool results. If you want your profile to be discoverable by AI tools:

  1. Go to your PingRep dashboard
  2. Navigate to Settings then Privacy
  3. Enable Public Profile
  4. Enable MCP Discoverable

Control Your AI Presence

Enabling MCP discoverability means AI assistants can find your profile and interact with your AI Representative. This is a great way to expand your professional reach. You can disable it at any time from your dashboard.

Troubleshooting

Tools not showing up in Claude Desktop:

  • Verify the config file path is correct for your operating system
  • Ensure the JSON is valid (no trailing commas, proper brackets)
  • Restart Claude Desktop completely (quit and reopen, not just close the window)

Authentication errors on save_contact:

  • Confirm your API key is correct and not expired
  • Check that KEYNODECARD_API_KEY is set in the config, not just API_KEY

No results from search:

  • The directory only returns profiles with MCP discoverability enabled
  • Try broader search terms or remove filters to confirm connectivity
